A Thursday Night
at Surge.

Here is exactly what happens when you walk in — from arrival to the last conversation. No surprises. No obligations.

One of the most common reasons people don't walk into a new community is not knowing what to expect. Will someone put me on the spot? Do I have to introduce myself? Is there a ritual? Will it feel religious in an uncomfortable way?

Fair questions. Here's the honest answer: a Thursday at Surge looks like a Bible study with a meal and real prayer. There is structure, but it's not rigid. There is faith, but it's not performed. And no one will make you feel like you wandered into the wrong room.

The Evening, Start to Finish

Seven moments across 90 minutes.

Every one of them matters. Here's what each looks like in practice.

Doors Open & Food

Arrive any time. There's always food waiting — usually a full meal. Come hungry, stay as long as you need. No sign-in. No nametag required.

7:15 PM

Worship & Music

We open together in worship. Live music led by members of the community — not a performance, just hearts turning toward God.

7:30 PM

Scripture & Message

A short, honest message from scripture — grounded in the reality of addiction, struggle, and the grace that meets both. No fluff. No performance. Just truth.

8:00 PM

Open Share & Prayer

The room opens up. Anyone can share — what they're walking through, what they're grateful for, what they're scared of. Then we pray together over all of it.

8:30 PM

Hang Around

The official end of the program — but nobody rushes out. Some of the best conversations happen in the last 30 minutes. You're welcome to stay as long as you like.

Current Study

What we're reading right now.

Battlefield of the Mind
Joyce Meyer

Battlefield of the Mind

The group is currently working through Joyce Meyer's landmark book on the mind — how we think, how destructive thought patterns form, and how scripture renews the way we see ourselves, our suffering, and God. It pairs directly with the Romans 12:2 anchor that runs through everything Surge does.

This study continues until the book is finished. New studies are chosen by the group. Come now and join in progress — the reading is done together, not in advance. You won't need to prepare anything.

First Time?

Common questions from people who haven't been yet.

Do I have to introduce myself or explain why I'm there?

No. Someone will greet you and make sure you feel welcome, but you won't be put on the spot. You don't have to say your name to the group, share your story, or explain yourself. If you want to, the room is safe for that. If you don't, that's completely fine.

What if I'm not a Christian, or I'm not sure what I believe?

Come anyway. Surge is explicitly Christ-centered — we won't pretend otherwise. But being in process, being skeptical, or carrying questions doesn't make you unwelcome. Plenty of people have come to Surge uncertain and left with something they didn't come in looking for. No one will pressure you.

Do I have to pray out loud?

No. You can receive prayer without praying yourself. You can be in the room while others pray without participating verbally. If you want someone to pray for you privately rather than in the group, just ask Jim. He'll step aside with you.

What if I don't have a recovery story — is this still for me?

Yes. Roughly half of the people in the room on any given Thursday are not in active addiction recovery. They came for community, for prayer, for a midweek anchor point in their faith, or because life is hard in ways that don't have a recovery category. You don't need a recovery story to belong here.

Can I bring someone with me?

Please do. Bringing a friend is one of the most common ways new people find Surge. The room is designed to welcome people who don't know anyone. Just come together.

Do I need to read the book before I come?

No. The group reads together, out loud, as part of the evening. You won't need any preparation at all. Come as you are.

Ready? This Thursday, 7 PM.
